The future of community engagement in tourism

Monday June 17, 2019 to Friday June 21, 2019

The 13th annual conference of the international competence network of tourism research and education is taking place in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. The conference is organised to address the topic of “The future of community engagement in tourism: Addressing the (im-)balance between tourism growth and the local community development.” This year NHL Stenden University, Academy of Leisure & Tourism, European Tourism Futures Institute will host the annual ICNT conference.

Discussing examples of balance or imbalance between tourism growth and local community

The aim of the ICNT conference is to share and discuss examples of balance or imbalance between tourism growth and local community involvement in different places of the world, to learn of how imminent imbalance can be anticipated in time, and to learn how balance can be maintained or imbalances can be prevented, in order to ensure resilience and contribution to sustainable tourism development as it is meant to be.
